Exploring Nature Preserves in Emmet County
What is a Nature Preserve? In this area, the Little Traverse Conservancy takes care of and protects the land. Their mission statement is:
The mission of the Little Traverse Conservancy is to protect the natural diversity and beauty of northern Michigan by preserving significant land and scenic areas, and fostering appreciation and understanding of the environment. Our service area includes Chippewa, Mackinac, Emmet, Cheboygan, and Charlevoix counties.
Did you know that between Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Mackinaw City there are over 40 nature preserves? Here is a visual borrowed from Landtrust.org. All of those little red dots represent a nature preserve.
Here are a few that we know are special:
Offield Family Viewlands (formerly Little Traverse Bay Golf Club)
Recently, the Little Traverse Bay Golf Club was sold to the Little Traverse Conservancy. Grants from the Offield Family Foundation and others, along with the LTC membership made this 290 acre purchase possible. This property is only 5 minutes from Trout Creek and we cannot wait for you to explore it.
